Introduction: Measuring the level of participation of university faculty members in management affairs is essential for planning to improve productivity in educational environments. This study was conducted to determine faculty members' participation in management decisions in different faculties of Hamadan University of Medical Sciences.
Method: In this cross-sectional analytical study conducted in 2020, a standard participation questionnaire was completed by all full-time non-clinical faculty members. The collected data were transferred to SPSS. In addition to descriptive statistics, ANOVA, independent samples t-test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient were used for data analysis.
Results: The mean age of the participants was 41.70±7.82 years.60% of the participants were men and 40% were women. In the field of education, the mean of the faculty members' views with managerial positions regarding the collaborative nature of decision making in various subjects was minimum 4.93±1.24 and maximum 5.94±1.10, which was significantly higher compared to the views of other members (P<0.05). The highest mean of the participation score in different fields were found 5.48±1.25, in the educational field and the lowest were in the administrative and financial field 2.69±1.99.
Conclusion: Since higher levels of participation in decision making in academic environments bring job satisfaction, commitment, and higher performance, it is recommended to adopt appropriate strategies to provide more opportunities for faculty members’ participation in the management affairs of faculties in all areas.
