Effective Factors on Postgraduate Students Research experience in Kerman University of Medical Sciences

Background: Today majority of researches in universities of medical sciences belong to post graduates students, thus qualitative assessment of current situation dominated on research in post graduates courses as well as evaluation of research experiences  and students expectation of teachers is very important. This study was conducted to evaluate postgraduate students research experience in Kerman university of Medical Sciences.

Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive-analytic  study, 105 postgraduate students participated. Data were collected using standard Postgraduate Research Experience Questionnaire (PREQ) in 4 domains of supervision, practical skills, perceptual skills and organizational climate . The effect of variables on students evaluation of research experience by using, chi-square tests, t-test, Anova, Tukey, pearson correlation and linear- regression has been done .

Results: The  mean score for the postgraduate students research experience was 3.22±0.42 of 5 and their satisfaction of 4 dimensions including supervision, practical skills development, perceptual skills development and intellectual climate were 3.03±0.7, 3.57±0.79, 3.48±0.61, 2.44±0.78 respectively. There was a positive relationship between all factors also correlation between dimensions of "promoting cognitive skills" with "improving practical skills" and "organizational climate", was significant (P<0.05).

Conclusion: based on results Most postgraduate students declare their fair satisfaction of research experience in  faculties of kerman universities of medical sciences. continuous and effective application  for  evaluating students research experience could provide situation for identifying strengths and weaknesses in research and educational processes in faculties and universities.
