The Attitude of Midwifery Students about Their Field of Study

  Introduction : The attitude of a person will change coordinated to environment. The time of studying is one of the periods of life that most of the attitude changes will happen in it. The effect of different factors in this period can cause positive or negative attitudes of students about their studying fields that will cause progress or canceling from that studying feild. This study was performed to determine midwifery student's attitude about their field of their study.

  Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on all midwifery students who are studying at Islamic Azad university of Rasht in the first semester of academic year 2012-2013 . The information was gathered through questionnaire which has two parts, personal information and the questions about field of study attitudes. To determine validity and reliability of the questionnaire, content validity and Cronbach's alpha (α=0.71) were used, respectively .The data was analyzed by SPSS 16 software using descriptive and analytical statistics.

  Results : The mean score of students' attitude toward their field of study was 16.42 ± 3.18 which obtained score was higher than the acceptable score. There were significant relationship between score of attitude and age of students (p=0.001) and education of mother (p=0.016) , but there were no significant relationship between score of attitude and another research variable (p> 0.05).

  Conclusion: According to the result of study, the majority of students have a positive attitude about their field. It's important to know the midwifery students' attitudes because it can effect on the setting of the rules and disciplines, the facilities, planning a successful program to train capable health forces, and also making an exciting environment at the university.
