The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of PBL in medical sciences. Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study with pretest-posttest design by control group. statistical population included 40 undergraduate students in Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (college of Management and Information) in course of Human Resources Development that were selected as random sampling method and divided into two groups of (Control group=19, and Experimental group=21). A man-made questionnaire was used for evaluating academic performance. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (Mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (ANCOVA) through SPSS . Results: result showed that problem solving learning is effective on student's academic performance(p<0.01).The comparison of pretest and posttest showed that student's academic performance in PBL group Increased Meaningfully. Although, in pretest the Mean of control and experimental groups had no difference, in posttest the mean of experimental group and control group was 16.32 and 13.49 respectively that show PBL has meaningful effect on students academic performance. Conclusion: since problem solving learning has a positive effect on student's performance, it is recommended medical sciences teachers try to use of this teaching approach and consider as priority in universities of medical sciences.
